Today is Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, a public holiday in Ghana. This holiday commemorates the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President. Kwame Nkrumah was a Ghanaian politician, political revolutionist, and theorist. He led Ghana to become the first sub-Saharan country to achieve independence in 1957.

TUESDAY, Tuesday…

Today is Independence Day in Belize, a public holiday. This holiday marks Belize being granted independence from Britain on this day in 1981. It became a British colony in 1840, known as British Honduras, and Britain formally declared the settlement a British Crown Colony, subordinate to Jamaica in 1862. Under a new constitution, Britain granted British Honduras self-government in 1964. On June 1st 1973, British Honduras was officially renamed Belize. Independence was achieved from the United Kingdom on 21 September 1981.

Today is Respect for the Aged Day, a national holiday in Japan. The day is intended to express respect for the elders in the community, and to recognize and thank them for their contributions to society and last but not least, celebrate their long lives.

MOONDAY

Today is Pohnpei Liberation Day in the Federated States of Micronesia. It commemorates the liberation of Pohnpei from Japanese occupation on September 11, 1945.

Today is the birthday, in 1943, of Maria Muldaur who had the hit single Midnight at the Oasis. But I remember her best from working with another group before she married Geoff Muldaur. Here she is with one her songs that I like the most.

Today is the birthday, in 1941 of Otis Reading. He died in a plane crash shortly after this song was released and it became the first posthumous number one hit.
