Not every holiday has a reason. Today is a ‘Bridge Holiday’ in Argentina – one of three bridge holidays that are observed each year to create a long weekend. In Peru it is one of six ‘Non-Working Days’ scheduled each year ostensibly to promote the development of domestic tourism in the country and promote the economic reactivation of Peru.

WEDNESDAY – tired of the rain day

Today is Republic Day in Portugal, a public holiday. It commemorates the establishment of a republican form of government in 1910 when the monarchy, the House of Braganca, that had been in power since the 11th century was overthrown in a bloodless revolution. The First Republic lasted for just 16 turbulent years, ending with the 28 May coup d’état of 1926. This put in place a military dictatorship known as the National Dictatorship and was followed by the fascist Estado Novo regime of António de Oliveira Salazar, which proved to be the longest serving authoritarian regime in Western Europe.

Crime spree

Today is the birthday, in 1943, of Steve Miller who, with his band, had this number one hit.

First TUESDAY in October

Today is Independence Day in Lesotho – one of my favorite countries. This day marks Lesotho’s independence from Britain in 1966. Lesotho is quite mountainous and reliably gets snow every winter. The lowest point in Lesotho is about 1500 meters above sea level.

Bada Bing!

The pros and cons of making kids…Pros: making…Cons: kids

If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

I just used the self-checkout at Walmart without needing assistance and they made me district manager.

I married my wife for her looks. But not the ones she’s been giving me lately.

I hate when people ask me what I do for fun because there is no classy way to say “binge drink.”

My goal in life is to piss off at least one person a day. So far, I’m about 4 years ahead of schedule.

My wife and I spend our days saying things like “we make the rules around here” and our nights saying things like “I hope they let us sleep in tomorrow”.

Day 1. Drove by the gym. Baby steps.

You wanna see social distancing? Loan somebody some money.

It’s the time of year when I get to pretend the 5 pounds of candy I’m buying is for trick-or-treaters.

On this day in 1970, Janis Joplin was found dead at the Landmark Hotel Hollywood after an accidental heroin overdose. She was known as “The Queen of Psychedelic Soul” and as “Pearl” to her friends, Joplin remains one of the top-selling musicians in the United States, with over 15.5 million albums sold in the USA.
