This day in 1973 Elton John started an eight-week stretch at the top of the US Album chart with ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. The album included a number of hit songs. You might remember these two.

Today is the birthday (in 1936) of Mary Travers. She, along with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stuckey were ‘Peter, Paul and Mary’ one of the most successful groups of the folk revival of the sixties. One of their biggest hits was Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ which they sang at the 1963 March on Washington.

Still more Autumn
One of my favorite current singers is Rhiannon Giddens. She is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory where she studied opera and is an accomplished performer in folk, bluegrass, jazz, celtic, R&B and a number of other genres. You’ll be seeing more of her here.
