TUESDAY is almost springlike here

Today is Peace Day, a public holiday in Angola. Día da Paz, the Day of Peace and Reconciliation commemorates the end of the Angolan Civil War on this day in 2002.

Independence from Portugal came to Angola in 1975. Two guerrilla groups had been instrumental in the armed struggle against the Portuguese colonization – the communist People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA). Almost immediately after independence, a power struggle between the two groups led to the Angolan Civil War. The MPLA seized power in the capital Luanda. With only a few interludes in the fighting, the war was to last 27 years. The conflict is estimated to have cost the lives of more than 500,000 civilians with over a million being displaced.

We don’t need no stinking math!

Bada Bing!

Too many birthdays can kill you.

Senior bumper sticker…I’m speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I’m going.

Tough day on Facebook. I still don’t know what you’re supposed to comment under a photo of a new baby, but I’ve learned it isn’t ‘Yikes!’.

I’m not lazy. I’m in my energy saving mode.

If everybody in the world held hands around the equator, most of them would drown.

Did you know that after all these years, the swimming pool on Titanic is still filled with water?

Everything on earth is either a potato or not a potato.

If you’re defusing a bomb, you’re either right, or it’s not your problem anymore

If I had a nickel for every time I didn’t know what was going on, I’d probably wonder where all the nickels came from.

SIGNZZZZ

Lots of birthdays today including, in 1948, Pick Withers, drummer, with English rock group Dire Straits who played on their first four albums, which included hit singles ‘Sultans of Swing,’ ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Private Investigations’. Withers also played drums on Bob Dylan’s 1979 album Slow Train Coming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0ffIJ7ZO4U

It’s THURSDAY!

Today is the first day of Ramadan. Ramadan is a period of fasting and spiritual growth and is one of the five “pillars of Islam” – the others being the declaration of faith, daily prayer, alms-giving and the pilgrimage to Mecca. Able-bodied Muslims are expected to abstain from eating, drinking and sexual relations from dawn to sunset each day of the month.

On this day in 1985, John Fogarty went to number one on the album chart with Centerfield. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq3hEMUeBGQ

THURSDAY Mid-March

Today is Mid-Lent Thursday in Guadalupe. Many shops and businesses will be closed; businesses that remain open are not legally obliged to give employees a day off, but some employees tend to take the time off.

Today is the birthday, in 1954, of Nancy Wilson who with Heart had the 1986 US No.1 single ‘These Dreams, and the 1987 US No.1 & UK No.3 single ‘Alone’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Cw1ng75KP0

TUESDAY, the last day of February this year

Today is Peace Memorial Day in Taiwan – a public holiday. The memorial day seeks to solemnly commemorate the 228 Incident which started on February 28th 1947 and resulted in the deaths of thousands during a brutal military crackdown under the KMT rule. On February 27th 1947, a dispute between a female cigarette vendor and a Chinese official started civil unrest and open rebellions. The Chinese responded with severe military force and put Taiwan under martial law. Martial law was only lifted in 1987. The estimates of the number of people killed range from 10,000 to over 30,000.

A good feature

Bada Bing!

Most of my decisions are based on whether or not it’s illegal or merely frowned upon.

Accountability looks like persecution to people who are rarely held accountable.

Quote from Shaquille O’Neal…I can’t end my messages with “Love, Shaq”, the B-52s ruined that for me.

The two reactions I get to my sense of humor are…People who know me… BWAHAHAHAHA

People who don’t… WTF is wrong with you?

I love social media. Back in my day, I had to insult people one at a time.

Her: I’m sorry Daddy, I’ve been a bad girl. Priest: For the last time, it’s “forgive me Father for I have sinned.”

Dear football players, the men who haven’t gotten off the couch today would like to know why you didn’t catch that ball.

I ate a bunch of cookies but at least I was thinking about salad.

I think it’s adorable they’re putting jokes on the side of snacks now.  Like this one; serving size: 3 cookies.

I totally expect my last words to be, “Hey, what’s this button do?”

If you’re trying to impress me with your vehicle, it better be a food truck.

I can’t decide what pants to put on today, smarty or fancy.

Bruce Lee was fast. But his brother Sudden was faster.

Today is the birthday, in 1957, of Cindy Wilson, singer and founding member with American new wave rock band The B-52’s who had the 1990 UK No.2 & US No.3 single ‘Love Shack’. She previously sang with The Ramones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SOryJvTAGs
