You have been warned!

We’ve been watching ‘Babylon Berlin’ on Netflix. It’s set in Berlin around 1920 and watching it reminded me of Christopher Isherwood’s Berlin Stories around which the show ‘Cabaret’ is loosely based. So here is the fabulous Joel Grey singing ‘Willkommen’ in the opening of the 1972 adaptation of Cabaret. It’s an amazing scene!

Today is the birthday (in 1936) of Mary Travers. She, along with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stuckey were ‘Peter, Paul and Mary’ one of the most successful groups of the folk revival of the sixties. One of their biggest hits was Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ which they sang at the 1963 March on Washington.

One of my favorite current singers is Rhiannon Giddens. She is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory where she studied opera and is an accomplished performer in folk, bluegrass, jazz, celtic, R&B and a number of other genres. You’ll be seeing more of her here.
