Today is National Heroes Day in both Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau. It’s no coincidence because in both countries the day marks the anniversary of the death, in 1973, of Amilcar Cabral – a leading figure in the liberation movement in West Africa and a fighter for independence in both countries.
