Proms

Those Brits!

The ‘Proms’ began in 1895 with the BBC supporting and broadcasting them from 1927. The ‘Last Night of the Proms’ is a rather boisterous and patriotic event attracting tens of thousands both inside and outside the hall and with plenty of flag waving and patriotic music. Among the music is ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ which is set to the ‘trio’ theme of Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1. So here, in all it’s delightful craziness and fun is the performance from 2012. Sit back and enjoy!!

Inspiration from abroad

Between the cold, the short days, the awful virus situation and the even more awful divisiveness in our country, I decided we all needed some uplifting inspiration.

The BBC Proms is an eight-week summer music festival that includes daily orchestral music as well as other presentations held mostly in the Royal Albert Hall but also in other venues. The ‘Last Night of the Proms is a special event held in the Royal Albert Hall but also in Hyde Park and other parks across the UK via giant video screens. It’s a wonderfully patriotic celebration. Here is one of the performances of ‘Rule Britannia’ by Dame Sarah Connolly. Sit back and enjoy! It makes you want to be British!!
