It is a day for the island nation of Japan to show appreciation for the seas and oceans. The day was also established as a holiday to express gratitude for the gifts of the sea, honor its importance, and pray for the prosperity of Japan as a maritime nation.

Today Kuwait celebrates its National Day which actually fell on Saturday. This holiday marks the day when Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah ascended to the throne in 1950. Kuwait actually achieved independence on June 19th, 1961, but celebrates its national day on February 25 because it is too hot in June.
