MOON DAY

Today is Democracy Day in Nigeria, a public holiday. Democracy Day is a national public holiday in Nigeria celebrating Nigeria’s turbulent journey to democracy.

Saturday was the birthday, in 1944, of Judy Craig, lead singer for the Chiffons. They had the 1963 number one hit ‘He’s So Fine’ which was also famous for being the plaintiff song in the successful plagiarism case against George Harrison for his song ‘My Sweet Lord’.

Today is Abolition Day, a public holiday in French Guiana. It marks the abolition of slavery in the colony in 1848. While slavery was abolished in France and all its overseas possessions on April 27, the news didn’t reach French Guiana until June 10. Hence the event is observed in French Guiana every year on June 10.

Today is the birthday, in 1941, of Shirley Owens, one of the Shirelles.

Let’s hear it for THOR and his DAY

Today is National Heroes’ Day in Uganda. National Heroes’ Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Uganda observed on June 9th. The day commemorates those who lost their lives in the Ugandan Bush War (1981 – 1986).

Today is the birthday, in 1891, of Cole Porter. It’s hard to know where to start; he composed so many classic songs. Here are a couple of my favorites.
