It is, of course, Earth Day. The first Earth Day was held in 1970 to recognize the importance of our environment, the beauty and wonder of our planet and to fight against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage spills, toxic dumps, pesticides, air and water pollution, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of a growing number of species. Today we find ourselves fighting against the same things but with a growing awareness of human-caused climate change that is already leading to catastrophic events for many and may be approaching a point where it is irreversible. We need to step up our game.
