Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world today. Today is also Royal Hobart Regatta Day – a public holiday in Tasmania. It loosely commemorates the European discovery of the island by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman.

Today is the birthday, in 1945, of Vic Briggs, lead guitarist for the Animals. He later converted to Sikhism, switched to classical Indian and Hawaiian music and adopted the name Antion Vikram Singh Meredith. Here is one of their most famous songs which may or may not be appropriate for Valentine’s Day.
