Festival of Dumuzi — Ancient Sumerian Calendar (return of the god of life and death to be with the goddess of life and bring the spring), Festival of Iduna — Ancient Norse Calendar (goddess of spring, keeper of the apples of youth for the gods), Haru-no-Higan — Japanese Buddhist, Harvest Festival and Coming Forth of the Great Ones from the House of Ra — Ancient Egyptian Calendar, Jare — Old Slavic Calendar, and so on. In pagan tradition, Spring is brought by the Goddess named Ostara or Eostre, accompanied by her sacred rabbits, flowers, pussy willows, and colored eggs — all symbolizing the fertility and new beginnings of a reawakened Earth.
Other myths of Springtime celebrate the Goddesses Demeter and Persephone — the return of the Daughter from the Underworld to awaken joy and renew life in the heart of her grieving Earth Mother.

Today is the birthday, in 1951, of American blues rock guitarist and singer Jimmie Vaughan who was a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds.
