Finally FRIDAY…and not a day too soon

Today is National Day in Kuwait marking the day when Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah ascended to the throne in 1950. Most countries celebrate their national day on the date they became independent. In Kuwait, this would have meant June 19th, the date if independence from Britain in 1961. June is very hot in Kuwait and the Kuwaitis, ever practical, moved the date to February marking the date when the Sheikh currently in power came to the throne.

Thoughts…

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. It also tends to get you fired.

I’m not big on seizing the day. I just kind of poke it with a stick.

Many people don’t know this, but it’s possible to read something you disagree with and simply move on with your life.

I’m not arguing. I’m explaining why I’m right.

Easy way to drop twenty pounds: go shopping in London.

Kids these days don’t know how easy they have it. In my day we had to walk nine feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

Today is the birthday, in 1943, of George Harrison, often known as the ‘Quiet Beatle’. After the Beatles he had a successful solo career and was a member of the Traveling Wilburys.

THURSDAY

Today is Dragobete. A traditional Romanian observance, Dragobete is celebrated on 24 February each year, 10 days after Valentine’s Day, and is a day dedicated to love and nature. Legend has it that Dragobete was the son of Baba Dochia, the goddess who ushered in spring, and because of his unending kindness, he was blessed by the Virgin Mary, to be the guardian of love.

I bet if we melt a horse we could use it to stick stuff to other stuff. Dude… is everything okay at home?

I missed yesterday’s birthday, in 1685, of George Frideric Handel. Here is a nice piece he composed that might take your mind off the news for a while. Listen and enjoy.

WEDNESDAY…and it’s raining.

Today Japan celebrates the Emperor’s Birthday – a national holiday. Known as ‘Tennou Tanjyobi’, this holiday is celebrated on the birthday of the current emperor and thus changes when a new emperor ascends to the throne. The current emperor, Naruhito, was born on February 23.

No good birthdays today so here’s a great video of We Five performing what was really their only hit, a cover of an earlier Ian and Sylvia song.

So where do you see yourself in five years? I'd say my greatest strength is listening.

Bada Bing!

I’m in Home Depot and some kid called me an old fart. So if you’re missing your kid, he’s in the red LG dryer in aisle 17.

I’m adopting a healthier lifestyle. I parked and walked inside to buy donuts instead of using the drive-thru.

I’m not mean. I’m just too old to pretend I like you.

I can’t wait to retire so I can get up at 6 in the morning and drive around really slow and make everybody late for work.

My life is just a series of WTF moments separated by snacks.

Hats off to the waiter that kept a straight face as my 5yo ordered the vagina for lunch instead of lasagna.

Have we checked all food to see if making it explode makes it into something better? Or did we just stop with popcorn?

No good birthdays today so here are the Mindbenders!

MONDAY HOLIDAY!

It is, of course, Presidents’ Day in the United States. It is also Father Walter Lini Day in Vanuatu. A former Anglican priest, Father Walter Lini became the first prime minister of the newly independent country of Vanuatu in 1980. This holiday commemorates his death on this day in 1999.

Good advice – be a dancer.
You're asking a pretty high salary for someone with no experience. Well, this job is going to be super hard since I don't know what I'm doing.

There is a factory in Northern Minnesota that makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys. The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms.
Well, Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00AM.
The next day at 8:45AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager’s door. The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee. He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule.

The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the 2 men march down to the factory floor.

When they get there the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo’s all over the factory floor and they’re really beginning to pile up. At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo’s. She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles.

The 2 men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles, and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo’s legs.

The Personnel Manager says to her, barely able to keep a straight face, “I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you yesterday. Your job is to give Elmo two test tickles.”

This is a wonderful video – take a minute or two to watch, listen and enjoy.
