Today is the birthday of Kim Jong Il, a public holiday in North Korea. This national holiday is called “Day of the Shining Star” in Korean as North Korea’s officially approved biography tells us that a glowing new star and a double rainbow appeared when Kim Jong Il was born on February 16th 1942 on Mountain Baekdu, a cherished mountain to the Koreans.

Today is Statehood Day in Serbia (Dan državnosti Srbije). It is a public holiday and commemorates the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 against the Ottoman Turks. It was not until 1867 that the last Turkish troops left Serbia.
